MR’S WORK WITH DIOR INCLUDES FLAGSHIP STORES FOR BOTH MEN’S (DIOR HOMME) AND WOMEN’S, AS WELL AS SEVERAL ROLLOUTS ACROSS THE U.S. COLLABORATING CLOSELY WITH THEN CREATIVE DIRECTOR HEDI SLIMANE, MR’S OBJECTIVE WAS TO EVOLVE HIS VISION, THROUGH ADAPTING AND ENHANCING THE EXISTING STORE CONCEPT TO EACH NEW STORE’S SPECIFIC LOCATION.
THE DESIGN OF THE MEN’S STORE, WHICH OCCUPIED A LONG, NARROW SPACE LOCATED ON 57TH STREET INCLUDED A LAYERING OF FINISHES IN MATTE AND SHINY, LIGHT AND DARK. THE USE OF TRANSPARENT AND REFLECTIVE SURFACES PERCEPTUALLY DIFFUSED THE SPACE’S PERIMETER. THE WOMEN’S STORE, LOCATED NEXT DOOR, WAS BASED ON THE COMPANY’S PARIS FLAGSHIP WITH A SERIES OF ROOM TYPES TO SHOWCASE JEWELRY, HANDBAGS AND ACCESSORIES, AS WELL AS THE DIOR FASHION LINE. IT WAS ESSENTIAL THAT THE NEW YORK LOCATION BE INFUSED WITH ELEMENTS THAT WOULD CREATE A CONNECTION BETWEEN IT AND THE PARIS STORE. IN ORDER TO DO THIS, A FULL-SCALE MOCKUP WAS BUILT IN PARIS THAT AIDED IN ALL PHASES OF DESIGN FOR NEW YORK.
